How it creates miscommunications
-- If all we do to communicate with others is text or email them, things may not be as well explained as we had wanted them to be. This could easily lead to a misunderstanding or mix up. These miscommunications could effect relationships that we have with other people, simply because we chose to use text which usually is shorter, making us appear to either care less or possibly not care at all because of pure laziness.
Reduces the depth of a conversation
-- When face to face with another person (especially in our youth population) studies are finding that they're having a difficult time conversing because they're used to ending conversations very quickly via texting. This also coincides the fact that they're having a difficult understanding body language amongst each other causing for awkwardness.
The distraction during other conversations
-- When you're trying to have a serious conversation with another person, and all they're doing is staring down at their phone every few seconds it's annoying. The person who is "listening" isn't actually giving you their full attention, which can be frustrating and aggravating to say the least. It's rude and very disrespectful, especially if the person is directly talking to you and trying to have a legitimate conversation.
Lack of confidence/Comfort Zone
-- Before you respond to someone via texting, you have the option to re-read and think about what you would say to respond. However in person you don't have 10 seconds to think over what you'd like to respond with. The younger population is finding it difficult to converse with members of the opposite sex in fear that they may say something wrong or weird. By allowing people the chance to think about how they would respond to everything, they could potentially be projecting a different person than they really are to the other person (making sure they don't say something mean/judgmental etc).
Lack of Body Language
-- With less and less face to face conversations occurring people (mostly younger) are starting to lose touch with body language. Lack of eye contact, touch, voice establishing an interaction that people are becoming too accustom to. There is no love or affection shown through words on a phone, but the smile and blank stare into someones' eyes goes much further.
